Queensland Communities get choice on fluoride

FLUORIDE will not be forced on the region's outlying communities in a move that could prevent millions of dollars being wasted on water no one drinks.

Two years ago, Toowoomba Regional Council started adding fluoride to Toowoomba's water supply under a compulsory State Government scheme.

Council was in the process of planning how it would do the same to water supplies in Clifton, Wyreema, Crows Nest, Highfields, Pittsworth and Brookstead.

That was expected to cost $3.1 million upfront and millions of dollars over its lifetime in terms of ongoing operational costs.

But Premier Campbell Newman has scrapped the compulsory scheme, announcing communities could now decide for themselves whether they wanted their water fluoridated.

"Certainly, we would not be removing it from any location where it exists already, but the idea of forcing certain communities right now to put it in and incur the cost, that is something I am more than happy to have a look at," Mr Newman said.

"What the former premier Anna Bligh did was, as usual, impose costs on ratepayers through local communities.

"It is very expensive infrastructure and there are ongoing operating costs, and particularly if the communities were against it."

Clifton and District Progress Association president Maryann Bifdee said it would not have made sense to fluoridate the town's water as most residents did not drink it.

"The majority of town drink tank water because the town water is bore water," Mrs Bifdee said.

"It would have been a waste."

Water and Waste Projects spokeswoman Cr Nancy Sommerfield said council had been preparing to take the project to the market.

"This can now go on hold," she said.

Cr Sommerfield said council would now go to district communities to ask residents if they wanted fluoride in their drinking supplies.

"Council can now confidently engage our communities and hear their voices in this discussion, so that we can arrive at an outcome that is the best fit for residents," she said.

Late 2008 Premier Anna Bligh forced compulsory Fluoridation upon local councils in Queensland. Local councils could face big fines if they did not comply. This was troubling for some council’s as they were helpless when their own community voted against Fluoride.

The new Premier, Campbell Newman, has now announced that the remainder of Queensland towns will no longer be forced to fluoridate under State regulation. This decision is now in the hands of local councils. I applaud this and see it as a beginning – State Government is listening to its Local Councils. There is now hope that councils will listen to their people.

Unfortunately, this decision does not exempt existing councils that have wasted their money on adding this toxin to their public water supply. They are left with having to pass this cost onto their community, even if they opposed fluoride at the time.

These Councils should let their community vote once again, especially if their community voted against it previously. It should be up to the people.

The rollout of fluoride was based on improving dental care. It’s the science of rinsing your mouth with a diluted toxin so that we can reduce cavities in our teeth. It has been an experiment on the public water supply since the 1950’s.

What pushed this was big business. Introducing Fluoride allowed big companies like Alcoa to dispose of their toxic waste without having to pay for it. They could now sell it for profit through the public water supply. This alone should raise a few questions.

Those opposed to Fluoridation see it as more than paying a tax that supports corporate interest. It’s about being forced to consume a cumulative toxin, its about lack of science, its about other health risks, it’s about our choice.

It is very pleasing to see an increase of public awareness on Fluoride through our website. In the last 12 months analytics have shown there are more new visitors than returning visitors. Inevitably, as public awareness increases we will reach a tipping point where a majority of the public will be informed.

We remember that doctors once prescribed cigarettes and builders installed that cancer causing asbestos. Fluoride will soon be seen as it is … a hazardous waste.

PUBLIC outrage against the State Government%u2019s compulsory fluoridation roll out has spilled over on the Tableland.

A Facebook group established by Kuranda resident Hannah Wattel has already attracted 363 members.

`It is a large number for the area and I think it sends a clear message…most of us don’t want fluoride,` Ms Wattle said.

Mayor Rosa Lee Long is encouraging every resident to stand up and be counted.

I want it removed from Sydney Water.

This is great news if it is true. Yes I saw the Hansard report where Premier Newman said he was going to look at allowing the Councils to make up their own minds about fluoridation, but I have not seen the evidence that this WILL happen and the Government Legislation on fluoridation will be amended. Have I missed something or are people jumping to conclusions?

Article update 2 July 2012 - Here are some additional articles covering the rejection of Fluoride by Councils in far North Queensland. Although this may be based on cost cutting by Campbell, I think the people here are also focusing on other issues that have been ignored previously.

New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation Inc. (NYSCOF) advises:- `Dental Crisis in America`: `AFTER 67 YEARS OF WATER FLUORIDATION AMERICA IS FACING A DENTAL HEALTH CRISIS....
AUSTRALIA’S DISGRACE – Mirroring dental health crisis in ‘fluoridated’ USA cities, Australia too is in Dental Crises after up to 50 + years of ‘fluoridation’.

‘Water Fluoridation Chemicals” -It is appalling how any human being would willingly wish (let alone by force/ mandate) to consume these dangerously corrosive and cumulative hazardous waste pollutants and co-contaminants known as ‘water fluoridation’ and also even more appalling and brings into serious question, the integrity and agenda of any Government inflicting this on an entire population.

There are still many who do not know the truth of `water fluoridation` ie that it is the hazardous waste fluorosilicic acid/silicofluorides and co-contaminants of lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium etc., so to have a fully informed population being able to make an informed decision, they would have to be told the truth of this dangerously corrosive and cumulative hazardous waste known as `water fluoridation`. When that happens the population will all say NO forever more.

Fluoride affects the brain and makes people submissive. That is why fluoride is an ingredient in all anti-depressive medications and that is why the government puts it into the water. The people who came up with this policy KNOW THAT. They WANT everyone to be submissive and quiet. It is brain-drugging. They want quiet, submissive tax-slaves. It is like when a rapist spikes a womans drink with drugs in order to rape her later.
The Australian government hates it when people stand up for their rights, strike and demonstrate like the people in Europe and Asia do all the time. Because the striking + demonstrating people achieve results! The Australian government does not want us to stand up for ourselves. That is why they want to drug us with fluoride. I say no. I will never be drugged.

I’ve seen more fluoride polls in the last 3yrs than solar panels on roof tops. All of these polls have rejected fluoride. I’ve seen mainstream media close polls without publishing results. I’ve seen the people vote no, I’ve seen no change.

“FORCED fluoridation” in QLD means this: Councils are FORCED by State to implement it within a timeframe, otherwise they will get fined. The people are FORCED to drink/eat fluoride as it is impossible to avoid it (foods are not labeled with fluoride, foods like bread are made from of water).

So Campbell, communities that have FORCED fluoride implemented in 2008-2012 QLD are still being FORCED to drink it. They still want Fluoride turned off. Continuing Anna Bligh’s ways under your GOV means that you are FORCING it too. Give us our choice back.

Hand the power back to local councils. Write a letter to them allowing their people to vote once again.

Gov`t will change nothing as long as people keep slaving for them. They don`t worry if the tax-slaves whinge about the gov`t all day every day, AS LONG they keep slaving...

The only thing that will change anything, is when people STOP SLAVING. Stop paying taxes, strike and demonstrate. You see, they use your tax money to buy more guns and equipment to control you even more...The people are effectively building their own prison by paying taxes to these tyrants...Voting changes absolutely nothing. Left or right wing politicians, they are all working for the same masters: Overseas billionaires...

Great comments. Good to see there are some awake people in this country - I don`t feel so lonely. The fluoride thing is so frustrating - most people are so uninformed about the dangers of this muck being put in our water. I don`t know why I continue to pay the water bills - I filter everything. If anything, we should be compensated for the additional cost of having to use filters to remove the poisons.

We do it for the kids !! they only drink water when it has got cordial in it wich deceives the purpose, I never see any kid walking around with a bottle of water. Mass medication it is, I have to pay water rates AND then buy my water in the shop. Only 1 % of the water coming from the tap is being used as drinking water, talking about wasting money, why set this up? It is banned in Europe. So parents that want their kids to have good teeth, stop giving them so many sugars, take them to the dentist every yr, get them to brush their teeth, and buy the fluoride tablet at the chemist if u think it is ok to give them this poison. I am not willing to drink this. Hitler added it to the water to calm down the population, wake up australia, just google, why is fluoride banned in Europe. See Do your research.
