Fluoride flows freely on Friday
Published 11/12/2009 Location: Queensland Rockhampton Bulletin Visit the origional article

FRIDAY is F Day – the day when the first fluoridated water will flow through Rockhampton’s taps.

And, for some anti-fluoride campaigners, a day to be feared.

Cr Glenda Mather, who protested long and hard against the introduction of fluoride since the idea was first mooted, vowed yesterday to keep the pressure on state politicians.

“I don’t think this is over by a long way,” she said.

“The last poll suggested 80% of Queenslanders were against it.”

Cr Mather said she would campaign to hold Anna Bligh and her government to account at the next election.

“There are lots of people who are absolutely distraught about this issue and I think Friday will knock another nail in the coffin of this government.

“Anna Bligh has not listened to the people. She ignores the wishes of the people who put her in power and I will work to make sure people don’t forget what she’s done.”

She said there were hundreds of people in the region with chemical sensitivity who were horrified and frightened about what was going to happen to them from Friday when the chemical will be added to the water supply in Rockhampton, Gracemere and The Caves.

Residents at the Capricorn Coast will be drinking fluoridated water before the end of the year.

“People are angry and asking why we are wasting $30 million on a mass medication program that will cause harm to so many. The state is poor, broke and selling off its assets, yet is pouring all this money away.”

Cr Mather has paid for full-page advertisements in local newspapers to get her argument across that fluoridation is a violation of individual human rights. She believes the addition of fluoride will lead to dental fluorosis in children, where the enamel becomes weak and pitted.

Fitzroy River Water confirmed yesterday that it was on schedule to install equipment to meet the State Government’s deadline of next Friday for Rockhampton, The Caves and Gracemere, despite a four-week delay in delivery of the system.

Regional Councillor, Glenda Mather, is working hard with the people in the fight against fluoridation in Rockhampton. Despite having a majority that reject fluoridation, Rocky will have it added to their water next Friday.

Anna Bligh shows evidence of her autocratic leadership by ignoring Queensland’s local governments and bulldozing ahead with the mandatory fluoridation of Queensland’s public water supply.

You are a champion Glenda. We are all aware of your great struggle, and are immensely proud of what you have done to try to protect your people from mass-poisoning. Put a million nails in their coffins!! Let us know if we can help.

The issue is a government’s will to force a chemical by-product upon all Queenslanders, without as much as consultation with the local authorities, or the general public. It also demonstrated a total lack of understanding on health issues, as well as a blatant disregard for the possible impacts on existing health problems each member of the public may be suffering.

The apparent knee-jerk reaction to poor dental health in some Queensland children, should not be remedied by an ad-hoc and reckless approach to these problems, with total disregard for the opinions of local governments, and the people of Queensland.

i fully support Cr. Glenda mather in her bid to put a stop to Fluoridation in C.Q. and beyond.I stay in touch, and a**ist Glenda whenever possible. I have campaigned since the announcement of Fluoridation of our water in 2007. I work in the Organic food industry, and have a large customer base who mostly disagree with this insane costly act. I send out regular Fluoride related emails to a select group, but sometimes I send them out to all my customers, even though it may jeopardise customer relationships. I feel the risk is worth it. I regularly email L.T.T.E. at the Bully, and also share this violation of human rights with whom ever I meet. With the collective efforts of all of us here in Central Queensland opposing Fluoridation, I have noticed a huge swing to no Fluoride thinking.
I applaud the Fluoride Australia efforts. Let s keep it going!
A rose, is a rose, is a rose. A poison, is a poison, is a poison.
