MARGARET Phillips has good reason to not want her water fluoridated - she believes she is allergic to it.

The Bayview Heights resident yesterday joined about 50 people outside Cairns MP Desley Boyle’s office protesting against forced fluoridation of Cairns’ water supply.

Cairns’ potable water supply will be fluoridated by December 31 while water supplies to areas with more than 1000 people will be fluoridated by December 31, 2010.
Cairns Regional Council initially resisted the move but was overturned by the State Government which requires all councils to fluoridate their water.

Cairns council opted to use sodium silicofluoride in its water treatment plants, with commissioning of fluoridation equipment starting yesterday.

Mrs Phillips, 58, claimed whenever she drank fluoridated water, she suffered from debilitating asthma.

Mrs Phillips said with Cairns’ water to be fluoridated, her only options were to move or install an expensive rainwater tank or a reverse osmosis water system for her home.

"We went to New Zealand three weeks ago," Mrs Phillips said.

"The first week, I drank bottled water then we went way down the South Island, and we had two cups of coffee made with tap water.

"I had two weeks of not being able to function at all. It hit within six hours.

"I was drinking bottled water the whole way and I thought this house had tank water, when it happened to be fluoridated tap water."

The Australian Dental Association dismisses any link between fluoride and asthma.
The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology also claims there is no evidence of allergy or intolerance to fluorides as used in the fluoridation of community water supplies.

Far North Queensland chairman of Queenslanders for Safe Water, Air and Food, Bill Kilvert, said there was a lack of evidence proving fluoride strengthened teeth.
"In Queensland, they say we’re a long way behind the rest of the country (in cutting tooth decay). We’re not," Mr Kilvert said.

"We’re only behind New South Wales and Victoria by about 1 to 2 per cent, but (the Queensland Government) says 40 per cent. "

Cairns MP Desley Boyle, who was in Brisbane yesterday, acknowledged the protesters, claiming their feelings were as strong as those within the community who wanted fluoridated water.

"I know the difference in the dental health of NSW children compared to Queensland children.

"I lived up here for ages and I don’t see and believe there is any evidence of damage to the people of Mareeba or Townsville who have long had fluoride in their water supplies."

She said the State Government was proceeding with fluoridation of water supplies because it believed it reflected the majority view.

Early yesterday the people of Cairns protested against the addition of Fluoride to their potable water supply. Unfortunately, Fluoridation is scheduled for December 31 2009.

It doesn’t take long to look up a few web sites, and learn that water fluoridation does little, if anything to reduce tooth decay, and in fact has the potential to do much harm. Particularly because the industrial waste product being added to our water also contains a chemical c**ktail of heavy metals, all of which are highly toxic.

Treating the whole population for what ails less than 10% is costly, reckless, unethical, irresponsible & defies all logic. It is an abuse of power! If a doctor did that, he’d be de-licensed!
The best way to prevent dental decay is to provide good nutrition & remove junk food & sodas. Any mother knows this! I seriously question the integrity/ethics of politicians & experts, who propose treating the whole population, without regard for people that will be harmed by this poison! It’s like using DDT to kill bugs. Today we know better!
To see the damaging effects of fluoride, look at the teeth & skin of people & TV personalities from fluoridated areas. Most have crooked, protruding teeth with mottling/fluorosis & need costly orthodontic work/cosmetic dentistry. Moles, cancers & wrinkled skin are prevalent, because fluoride breaks down the body’s collagen. Fluoride lowers childrens IQ & can affect their behavior! Do we need to dumb down or enrage our children anymore?

Qld Health hides behind anonymity to peddle their lies. There has been no research, ever, in Australia to prove safety of water fluoridation.
How do they explain 40% of population in NSW, Victoria , Tasmania and Townsville who suffer from asthma as compared to 12% elsewhere in Queensland ? (2008) No evidence? Here I am!!
Samoan tsunami victims suddenly inexplicably developed asthma when they moved to fluoridated Auckland , NZ, while in non fluoridated, non chlorinated Christchurch , NZ. only 5% of the 450 000 residents are asthmatic.
How do they explain the young TV presenters from southern states who have enlarged thyroids ( and spotty teeth? Even our Federal Health minister appears to be affected.
How does Desley Boyle explain her endorsement of mandatory poisoning of 4.2 million people?

I have spent the past year researching water fluoridation. The substance used is an S6 poison, (almost the worst kind). It is 19% fluoride and the rest of it is silica, mercury, lead, arsenic, aluminium, uranium-238 and lots of other tasty toxins, straight from the phosphate fertiliser manufacturer s dump to your tap.
Not counting water fluoridation and your toothpaste, Queensland already pumps 2.8 million kg of fluoride into the environment.
Forget climate change, this is a way bigger problem with a far worse long term outcome. Human and environmentally
The Council “just follows orders” like good little foot soldiers. No one takes any responsibility.
In Europe where dentists are doctors first, fluoridated water has been banned.

Boyle is a typical politician. Uninformed, self-serving in everything they do and totally at ease with their own indifference, if not to say contempt of those who pay their exorbitant salaries. Bligh, one of the dumbest and least respectable woman ever to be in the limelight, does not know (or care) what her actions do to anyone. The rest of the world has abandoned fluoridation decades ago and the exception is made up of a small handful of countries where profit from selling toxic waste is still embraced by the moneychangers.

It (the practice of mass medication) will go down in history as one of the big SHAMES of our time.

Fluoride is a Neurotoxin and is poisonous to humans, not to mention our land and coastal reef. Considering the amount of water we are currently flushing out via stormwater, fluoride will only continue to kill the reef we are supposed to be protecting. If you do not care about the health of our residents (agreed: a crime against humanity), at least you could care about preventing further degradation of our environment. I live here precisely because of the beautiful natural environment that this area offers AND the water quality (although now contaminated with chlorine; atleast chlorine is simple to filter out, as opposed to fluoride which is next to impossible). Tourists are also attracted to the beauty and natural wonder of this region, but not for long if council has its way. Fluoride will kill tourism too.

I do not wish to have fluoride in our water due to the fact I DON T believe it is necessary for every person to take this chemical. It is a chemical & many people could have adverse effects on it. I believe fluoride as been available to the public free from the Council for years & if people want to use this option they can without putting other people through this stress. We also have free dental for children at the schools. What more do some poeple want. Surely people have to be more responsible for their own actions regarding their own health.

Please don t put it in our water.
THE PROBLEM IS CHILDREN TEETH/MOUTH HYGIENE. SPEND THE MONEY ON TEACHING THEM TO LOOK AFTER THEIR MOUTHS HYGIENICLY.
You are trying to fix a small portion of the community. Address the problem, targeting that group. Don t make us pay (the larger) part of the community.

Im sad to see as our Governing bodies who keep pushing things at us without careful concidration and all of the facts. In a work place enviroment we have specail guide lines in place of
how to deal with chemicals and notices wherever these chemical are stored or dispenced. But when it come to Floride we are TOLD we must have it, without any suport of how to handle it. We are continualy subjected to all kinds of chemicals in our foods and have lots of warning to avoid what we dont like, so why should water become somthing we avoid? If this is an issue about dental health, perhaps our governing bodies whom we employ, should legislate the standard of sugar products available to the public and especaily children. I lived in Perth for many years and my children experienced white patches in their teeth from excess fluoride.

I strongly object to the heavy handed way the Bligh Govt has introduced this poison into the most basic and vital necessity of life - all without a mandate from the people of Queensland. Where is our freedom of choice. I personally am very much against ingesting fluoride but respect other s rights to believe in its supposed benefits. Forget about filter and tank water because like they did in all of Europe and most other countries they will only run fluoride on an alibi doses to justify the imposition and eventually discontinue altogether because they couldn’t give a rats posterior about healthy teeth. BUT, the infrastructure remains in place and this is the Agenda with the big A. – There will be injectors installed in every municipal water-supply, ready, dormant and capable to (remote-controlled) mass-sedate, inoculate, pacify, terminate or whatever is needed when TSHTF. Calibration and contents will be contracted to Halliburton and our local waterworks wouldn’t even have access. All for our own safety of course. They wouldn t lie to us... would they? I am 16yrs old and I have already started to google and read internet sites about fluride in water.I am in a family of 5 and we are drinking filtered rain water.So far i have read more bad things than good. The truth is clear.Tooth decay as a reason for the queensland government to put fluride in water is cover up. The question is what are they covering up? There is now no alternative than to get rid of this dictatorial Government in Queensland at the next election, we have to elect as many as possible good independents that will represent us, and not the party in Brisbane so that the LNP, should they win government, would have to rely on the independents to get legislation through. The government of Australia and New Zealand do not have a single page of valid scientific data to prove fluoride is safe but are aware that it causes bone cancer. I have sighted government documents proving that fluoride is dangerous in small quantities and not recommended for human or animal consumption. Currently politicians in Townsville are being told where to find this information which is located in Canberra. This should make the cabcharge case against Slipper look like a drop in the ocean. The prime minister Julia Gillard doesn`t know what I know but will wish she did. BTW 20 tubes of fluoride tooth paste will kill a baby which is why parents are told not to let their children swallow it.

I choose NOT to floiaudrte, but do I have that choice? No. If you want to have non-food grade fluoride in your water I respect that, but why does the entire Queensland population have to be forcefully medicated?The only way to remove fluoride from the water is with a reverse-osmosis filter which also takes out all the other minerals. So then you have to pay for some sort of system to put it pack in.It`s really frustrating.I was told that the original reason why fluoride was introduced into the public water system in America was because an Alluminum manufacture had excess fluoride and their marketing reps pitched it ot the Government that it would be good for the population`s teeth. I would love it if we had a choice.

Me and my sister both have the same pelobrm. It`s named Fluorosis, and the marks are permanent. Whitening with increase the white marks to a brighter affect; It will always stand out. I`m in the process of seeing a cosmetic dentist. My sister got her top teeth done with veneers. You`re looking up to $ 900+ per tooth. The cheapest method would be to get microabrasion done on the teeth affected by Fluorosis. They shave down the area and fill it with colour matching filling. This will have to be renewed each year, and is only temporary.
