ANTI-fluoride campaigners claim more people have joined in their latest protest and are refusing to pay the water volume component of their Barwon Water bills as a form of protest.

Barwon Freedom from Fluoride held a meeting in Geelong West on Wednesday night to discuss the latest tactic in the long battle against fluoride.

Group spokesman David McRae said yesterday over 50 people attended the meeting and gave support to the individual citizens who were now refusing to pay the water volume component of their water bills to protest against enforced fluoridation.

“Many people expressed that they may soon join the water bill protest,” Mr McRae said.

“People are saying they do not want to pay for water that has been deliberately contaminated with a high level poison".

“About 10 people present at the meeting have withheld their payments since last June or July.

“Some have been harassed by Barwon Water’s legal firm Mendelsons, but have firmly told the debt collectors to back off as ‘this is a legitimate political protest’.

”Barwon Water’s general manager customers and communication Luisa Munoz said yesterday the authority followed a formal process for non-payment of bills as outlined in its Customer Charter.

“As a last resort, Barwon Water may take legal action and may restrict supply,” she said.

“Regarding alleged harassment, Barwon Water and its representatives follow a structured and respectful process. Barwon Water has not received any complaints of harassment.

By adding Fluoride to the water supply you remove peoples freedom of choice, it's like forcing medication. David McRae is sending a clear statement: "Why pay for something you don't want, especially when it's a posion!"

I kind of feel a little helpless in supporting you Dave. As I m renting I don t have a decision in NOT paying my bill. I ll take my hat of to you though and encourage my family not to pay their bills.

What an extreme way by not paying you water rates...seems to me that we the public will have to pay for testing this additive...to see if it is safe at 100 times the concentration being added to water...if it can be shown to cause cancer in rat/mice at this level the food safety people will have to remove it from water

A coincidence at the very least.I was mulling over this idea the other day, and have mentioned it to some of my fellow protesters here in Rockhampton. I felt that refusing to pay for a service that was not delivering what you wanted, was one way of casting our vote against fluoride. And we have not had the opportunity of a referendum. I do believe a large amount of home owners would be needed for this to have an effect. A daunting task, but anything is possible. It would be good to make contact with some one in Barwon on this subject.
By the way, a WIN V poll was conducted this week in Rockhampton. Do you think Fluoride should be added to the water? 10% YES, 90% NO. What a result! We hope it will raise a few eyebrows! Hopefully high profile eyebrows.
Good luck to you all in Barwon, and keep in touch.
Keith Kelley
